I haven't done this in quite awhile, so thought of revolving it again. These are the few pieces of music that was influential in making the previous "short" story. This and that I just wanted to produce another playlist.

Dirty Pop

Maybe change is a bit too much for awhile. Perhaps. It kinda occurred to me while watching Justin Beiber's Never Say Never movie on HBO. Yes. Justin Beiber's movie. The obvious misconception is that I am all "indie" and listen to mostly unheard of songs, but this does not mean I like Justin in any way (or how a 5 year old in the late 90's would say "na'ah"). I am really not sure why I needed to state any of those things but I guess when I watched the movie I realized that there is some sort of revival coming back.

I know that the view is everything is cyclical. What goes around comes around they say. Even though I don't like Justin's music (this is prejudice due to the fact that I don't listen to it at all) I think I understand the significance of him in the music world. The fanaticism that comes with him is our generation's Beatlemania or if your the "i go for local", KRUmania. Ha ha. I remember buying an N'SYNC album after giving away the first one (can't seem to remember why in the first place).

The revival of pop has made for reactions by the Asian contingent through the K-pop wave. This then made for the British dips in the pool of pop. This is all my theory but it makes for a good excuse for the movie doesn't it? Like it or not, what pop brings to the table is a sense of youthfulness and optimism. Most popular pop songs are about the optimism in life. Yes pop has seen changes in terms of its sound but pop is still pop. We do need a little bit of sugary sweet once in awhile I guess. Now I know there's still some issues about the resemblance I am making with Beatlemania and what Justin is doing now, but if you look back Beatlemania started at the very beginning of their careers where they were mostly singing pop songs and had a strict look they needed to portray. I guess it has always been like that as it was with the King of Pop when he starred in the Jacksons.

As always I have no idea whatsoever as to why I am typing all this but I think it will make sense someday in hindsight.

Telinga bengkak

After what seems like forever, I came back. Even though it has only been 4 days, I'm back at home. Ha ha. I have a hard time to quickly adapt I guess. Yes, 3 semesters per year yet I still have a hard time. Enough of the yip yaps, there are far more questionable materials to unravel but since I'm not into politics, lets just leave it at that. Ha ha.

If your like everyone else, there is slightly more chance of you liking music than the political scene. Whether you own only one album or more it would be hard to find a person who can live without music. It is like living life without colors. I have this knack for music of the past. I'm an oldie they say. Even the choice of songs I hear today are not what your normal radio stations play (this has now been a major influence in the local music industry as it tries to reignite itself, but is another story altogether). The lyrical content of today's songs are very much questionable to say the least. There are fewer genuine singer-songwriters today that has caught the attention. Even up to the 90's we could still see a good amount of these people making it to the popular music scene in the likes of Jewel, Alanis Morrisette and bands like No Doubt or the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Now I find that to search for the type of artist that expands ones minds I need to search outside of the popular music scene.

Don't get me wrong, there are some inside the chart topping circle that are good songwriters but they seem like a dying bread. Taylor Swift for one has caught the attention of many with her down to earth relatable songs. One thing that a song should do is have it relate to the listeners which I find confusing in a current world with more show than talent. Even the hip hop scene, which was once glorified by the lyrical production, has now became more of a booty shaking extravaganza than anything else. The one who has still caught my ear to this day with his lyrics is Jay Z. Even Eminem has faded a bit (although this might be because he is producing more behind the scenes).

So here I salute thee, singer-songwriters. Ha ha.

Patah Balik

As most of you might have known I once lived in the states and although it was mostly remembered about the life I had there, I do remember the acts that caught my ear at an early age. I wasn't a teenage rebel who listen to rock back then. It was more of the top 40 hits when I was a kid. Friends the television series was just starting and it was the late era of grunge. MTV and radios still preferred to give us the music rather than ads and other junk (*cough* reality shows *cough*). Today buoyed by my previous post I'm reliving, if you will, nostalgia.

au revoir et salut

As we finally bid farewell to one of the most influential musician in recent times yesterday, we welcome a new era in music. Just like how the world was in shock of Elvis's death, no one would have thought that another musician could be as influential and as transcending as the King of Pop.

As they marched the casket up to the front of the stage, I thought to myself, will the next big icon come from a different genre? Elvis was undoubtedly the King of Rock and Roll because of what he gave to that genre in particular, and no one in their right mind would say that there would be another King of Pop. With two iconic figures coming from different genre, will we finally see an icon called the King of Jazz or New Wave and so on?

Whoever is next up on the throne one would suggest that they need to have generalize their art form. Bringing their genre into the headlines of music of the time. Unlike generations past however, we find that there are more segments of music genres formed. With new innovation comes with new terms as we see the music world expending accordingly with the personal taste of the world.

Technologies like the internet and satellite radio has meant that the consumer has more excess into the music industry which means that individual taste has been more important than ever. Whoever and however one will become the next music legend the world will surely miss and appreciate the ones that came before them.
